It was 2011 when nurse Alice Lee toured the Flying Eye Hospital during the plane’s visit to Vancouver. She had heard the Orbis story and was impressed by the world’s only fully accredited surgical eye hospital on an aircraft.

In December 2020 Belay had an eye evaluation at an Orbis-supported health center which led to sight-saving surgery, just in time. For the first nine years of little Dai’s life – he suffered with cataracts. What began as a subtle clouding of the lenses in his eyes – slowly got worse, and as he grew older – he was able to see less and less of the world around him.

Dr. Javed Farooqui first joined the Orbis family in 2014 as a staff ophthalmologist on board the Flying Eye Hospital. Now, he’s a consultant at Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital in Delhi, India, where he delivers sight-saving treatment and trains fellow ophthalmologists from across the world.
