What Is Cornea?

The cornea is the transparent front part of the eye, and you cannot see clearly if your cornea is scratched. Corneal impairment can be caused by a wide variety of reasons, including traumatic and infectious conditions.

Repeated trachoma infection causes corneal scarring, and rubbing your eyes may also scar your cornea!

Women and Visual Impairment

Globally, women are more vulnerable to visually impairments than men: close to two-thirds of the world’s blind are women. Are women born to be weaker than men?

There are challenges for both men and women in low and middle-income countries for accessing quality healthcare. However, because of gender inequity, women in developing countries face additional barriers in accessing the eye care they desperately need. These barriers include the lack of education, limited decision-making power and access to financial resources. Therefore, Orbis has been working hard with our local partners, to provide training to eye care specialists and address these barriers, to ensure access to quality eye care services for women.
